Clarcon Products serious danger to consumers

The FDA has issued a warning against Clarcon products found to contain various types of bacteria. Consumers are cautioned not to use any products from the Utah based firm that include skin protectants and skin sanitizers. The Clarcon products contain disease causing bacteria in high levels.

According to reports, US Marshall have seized all of the products and ingredients from the Clarcon manufacturing facility.

A list of the bacteria containing Clarcon products include: Citrushield Lotion, Dermasentials, DermaBarrier, Dermassentials by Clarcon Antimicrobial Hand Sanitizer, Iron Fist Barrier Hand Treatment, Skin Shield Restaurant, Skin Shield Industrial, Skin Shield Beauty Salon Lotion, Total Skin Care Beauty, and Total Skin Care Work.

The FDA says consumers should dispose of the Clarcon products immediately by throwing them in the trash. Do not use any of the skin products.

The bacteria found in Clarcon products can cause serious infection that might require surgical attention and cause permanent skin damage. The bacteria in the products could cause damage to underlying skin tissue. If you have used the products and have any signs of infection that include redness, swelling or painful skin, see your doctor or seek treatment in the emergency room.

So far, no cases of infection from Clarcon products have been reported to the FDA. Over 800,000 bottles of skin care products have been distributed throughout the United States since 2007. Bacteria in the skin products are considered highly opportunistic.

Clarcon products are a cause of concern, particularly because they are sold to prevent bacterial infection. The bacteria contained in Clarcon products were found to be present in high levels. The risk of infection is considered high from using the products. Healthcare professionals are encouraged to report infections associated with using Clarcon products to the FDA.
