Larry Johnson of Alcor Life Extension Foundation Claims Ted Williams Frozen Head Abused
October 3rd, 2009 | by admin | 848 viewsFormer Alcor Life Extension Foundation chief operating officer Larry Johnson has written a book. He alleges that Ted Williams’ frozen head was used for batting practice. Is it a bad day for Alcor, cryogenics, or Larry Johnson?
Larry Johnson on Cryogenics Giant Alcor Life Extension Foundation
Larry Johnson is the author of “Frozen,” a book that claims to be a true story. The content section of the books shows that this is not a happy cryogenics tale, but instead talks of maiming, death threats and murder. The prologue itself reads like a thriller the likes of which would make Dan Cook proud.
It is this book that the New York Daily News alleges to reveal the abuse of Ted Williams’ frozen head. The publication suggests that Larry Johnson exposes Alcor Life Extension Foundation employees for using tools as bats and Ted Williams’ frozen head as a baseball. Other claims involve the vivisection of dogs and the disposal of biohazards via the city sewer system.
Ted Williams Frozen Head Controversy Not Only Alcor Life Extension Foundation Scandal
As reported by the East Valley Tribune, Alcor and its cryogenics practices made news in 2003, when a 1992 death cast suspicions on Alcor workers. Allegations levied claimed that these workers hastened the death of the Alcor member so that the remains could be processed. At the heart of the scandal was Larry Johnson, who used his inside knowledge to become a whistleblower. Secretly recorded conversations, stolen documents and personal testimony led to Alcor suing Johnson for breach of contract.
Larry Johnson was also instrumental in revealing – as covered by CBS News – that Ted Williams frozen head was stored separately from his body and had been cracked. Moreover, a number of samples were missing. Alcor Life Extension Foundation responded to the 2003 claims with a 2004 article that took to task the sensationalist tone of the news stories, referred to its then 32 year track record, and considered Larry Johnson as little more than a disgruntled former employee.
Larry Johnson: Whistleblower, Gadfly, Activist or Guilty of Libel?
The supposed tell-all book about Alcor Life Extension Foundation begs the question if Ted Williams’ frozen head story is little more than sensationalist spin by a man out to make money. On the flipside, why would Larry Johnson take the risk of a libel suit Alcor would be sure to win, if the allegations were not at least somewhat grounded in fact with tangible proof backing them up? Then again, maybe the New York Daily News read more into “Frozen” than was really there?
