November 8th, 2009 | by admin | 724 viewsCal’s Jahvid Best suffered a horrific injury on Saturday when the running back vaulted into the endzone and landed awkwardly, rendering him immobile. Best, who lost his helmet when he fell to the ground, was a Heisman Trophy hopeful.

While Best’s teammates kneeled on the field and prayed for his well being, medical staffers rushed to the running back’s aid. Placing his body on a gurney, a white sheet over his legs and torso, and an oxygen mask on his face, Best was rushed to the hospital.
An injury update on Best reveals that test results have since come back negative. Head coach Jeff Tedford also confirmed that Best had movement of his extremities. Best did, however, suffer a concussion.
“His eyes were a blank stare, and he was just trying to breathe,” said Cal quarterback Kevin Riley, who described what Best looked like after the devasting injury. Riley blocked for Best on the play, which was a direct snap to the running back.
Cal, who played Oregon State, lost 31-14.
