HOPKINS COUNTY, KY – Just as Edward said in the first Twilight movie, “I leave you alone for two minutes and the wolves’ descend.” and so the foreshadowing comes to the stage. New Moon premiered last night just after midnight. In the Malco Theater of Owensboro as well as Capital 8 theatre in Madisonville, both showings were sold out well in advance. Hard core fans and those with a passing interest in the chronicles of star-crossed lovers Bella and Edward loved the romp through romance, anger, and friendship.
In The Twilight Saga: New Moon we find Bella pitted in a life and death competition between those that are easily proclaimed as monsters. Although just past the surface the Twilight Saga speaks more directly on the subjects of loneliness, love, anger, friendship, and coming of age. All of which are intertwined in a surreal but magical world of vampires and werewolves. We also find a deeper understanding of the two worlds that belong to the “monsters”, but are left wondering how Bella will decide to balance human, vampire, and wolf in her world.
New Moon seemed to be a little long running at just over two hours. And the reoccurring themes of Bella’s fear of abandonment and the inability for anyone to fully protect her slowed things down. However, there was a touch of humor to balance out the darker sides of Bella’s life under the New Moon. And the balance between action and romance was well placed. The Twilight Saga: New Moon is an interesting take on the angst of love and friendship that everyone will enjoy.
