Shaniya Davis was found dead in a rural part of central North Carolina on Monday.
The discovery of the 5-year-old’s body painfully ended a week’s long saga, which began with Shaniya Davis’ own mother Antoinette Davis, 25, notifying police last Tuesday that the child had gone missing.
The case took several twists and turns and it was revealed that Antoinette Davis will face charges for sex trafficking and child abuse.

Searchers found Shaniya Davis’ body early Monday afternoon about 100 feet off a road southeast of Sanford, in central North Carolina, Fayetteville Police spokeswoman Theresa Chance said. She declined to comment on a cause of death or the condition of Shaniya’s body.
“We’ve got a lot of people out at the scene right now that are torn up,” Chance said. “Detectives have been running off adrenaline to find this little girl and to bring her home alive. You have a lot of people in shock right now.”
Two people have been charged in her disappearance, one of them her mother, Antoinette Davis, 25. Police charged Davis with human trafficking and felony child abuse, saying Shaniya was offered for prostitution.
Davis was calm and quiet during a five-minute court appearance in Fayetteville on Monday afternoon. She provided one-word answers to the judge’s questions and held her hands in front of her, without handcuffs. She requested a court-appointed attorney and did not enter a plea.
Her sister, Brenda Davis, 20, said outside that she does not believe the charges.
“I don’t believe she could hurt her children,” said Brenda Davis, who was able to speak to her sister at the jail Sunday.
Authorities also charged Mario Andrette McNeill, 29, with kidnapping after they said surveillance footage from a Sanford hotel showed him carrying Shaniya there. Authorities said McNeill admitted taking the girl, though his attorney said he will plead not guilty.

My saddened heart and prayers goes out to you and your family at this time of suffering. There are not many words to say in this time of grief. We were praying and had high hopes that Shaniya would have been found alive. Although we are all the way in NJ, I feel as though your baby Shaniya was like my own relative.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I have 3 kids and my youngest child is a 4 year old girl. I can’t even imagine the pain you are in. I would walk through fire and would give my life for my children and for a mother to do that to her child makes me sick to my stomach. That lady (I’m not going to call her a mother because she is not)needs to rot in jail!!!! I do know there is a special place in HELL for her and anyone else that’s involved!!!! my heart goes out to shaniya this lady was not shaniya mother this was a demon sent from hell. it’s sad that no one around shaniya had any spiritual insight not even the father what could he have been thinking.you don’t just let a child go with a mother or father who you know to be on drugs.even if he thought that the mother had gotten her life together he should had made damn sure of this.it doesn’t matter if she was the mom or not.did anyone take the time out to see if this lady was ready to be a mother.My daughter has five kids four of the kids were born with drugs in their little body .she have her moments were she stops and starts for long periods as well as short.ask me if i think shes ready to take care of her kids. noway one has already been adoptive.and two more has been placed with close friends of mines awaiting their adoption.childern are a gift from god who gives people like my daughter and shaniya mother a right to decide when,where,or how life begains or ends because of their habits.

I am so sorry for that little girl,my heart breaks everyday thinking of the terrible things she may have went through.I hope with all my heart that they get the death penalty for what they did to this baby.R.I.P baby no one can hurt you any more.

Shania you will never be forgotten.. I think this is the sadest thing I’ve ever seen the fact that a mother could do this. Shania you had so much to live for and you are just an innocent precious baby who was taken way to soon you didn’t deserve this we are on your side and we will learn from your case to hold our chldren everyday and never let go of doing are best to make sure that what happened to you never happens to any precious baby ever again!! You were a baby!! a Beautiful baby!! Im so sorry that this has happened to you
and the family that loved you-God will take care of you and you will never have to feel pain ever again and I will think of you every time I hold my own daughter. I cry everytime I think of you!!

I’am a mother of two and my daughter is six year old. After watching this about Shanyia I cant get those last videos of her with her killer in the hotel, so trusting. What kind of mother would do that to her child. I never believed in the death penalty but after this I
wish death on her killer and mother. The suffering Shanyia must have went through it is a crime that will stay with me.I can only pray she is in a better place. I will always think of Shanyia such a pretty little girl. I hope her mother and killer suffer.
