Fausto Cardenas is a Houston man who has been identified as the suspected gunman who fired shots outside the Texas Capitol building in Austin. The 24-year-old was arrested today and is being held in jail, facing charges of deadly conduct discharging a fire arm at individuals.

State Senator Dan Patrick revealed on his Twitter account that a suspicious person had been reported to security shortly before the shots were fired. He said, “An individual came into my Austin Senate office today acting strangely, staff called security, moments later shots fired on Capitol steps.”

The “suspicious person” has not been officially identified as Cardenas, nor have police revealed a motive for the incident.
